About Camp Berjes

About Camp Berjes (formerly Vaartoe Adventure Camp)

Camp Berjes is located on an old summer farm, a place where farmers used to graze their animals during the summer (known as a “fäbod”). Life on a summer farm was simple; there was no electricity or running water, and the focus was solely on caring for the livestock and ensuring that there was enough food and warmth during the nights. A simple and fulfilling existence.

At Camp Berjes, we aim to let our guests experience this simple way of life. You boil your own water for coffee, chop wood to create a campfire, or heat your tent with a stove on colder evenings. Cooking is done over an open fire at your tent. No Wi-Fi, no fuss, no stress. All of this in a stunning location, right in the heart of Swedish nature.
The mountain on which Camp Berjes is situated is still referred to locally as “Berges” or “Berjes,” just as the summer farm has been known since around 1820. We want to preserve this rich history, which is why we named our camp Camp Berjes.

Camp Berjes is located in Glöte, a small farming village just outside Lofsdalen in the municipality of Härjedalen. Here you’ll find our cabin, tents, and the starting point for most of our tours.

Who we are

At Camp Berjes, you will be welcomed by Rutger and Kiki. Originally from the Netherlands, our love for the mountains and the seasons brought us to Sweden in 2017. Our passion for the wilderness, wildlife, and outdoor adventures has only grown since we moved to the rugged, vast Jämtland region.

To share that passion with others, we started Camp Berjes, a place for adventurous stays and exciting adventures in the Swedish wilderness.

Our farm around the year 1821. The house in the center was later moved back to its original location, higher up on the property.

At Camp Berjes, we speak Swedish, English, Dutch/Flemish, and can understand German.
